Decision rule
Check the account's licence history.
when the registered username has never had an UnlockTool licence. Choose renewal when that username was activated previously and needs more access time.
Do not create another username only to avoid renewal unless the developer's current account rules explicitly allow and require that path. Keeping one controlled account can also preserve a clearer order and support history.
Side-by-side
How the two services differ.
| Check | New activation | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| Username | Registered and never licensed before | Previously licensed username |
| Current state | No earlier activation attached to the account | Active, nearly expired or already expired access |
| Main purpose | Add the first licence period | Extend access on the existing account |
| Common mistake | Submitting an old account as new | Renewing the wrong or misspelled username |
Verify first
Use the account—not memory—as evidence.
- Open the developer login route directly from the official domain.
- Confirm the username can sign in. Use password reset if the owner cannot access it.
- Copy the visible username exactly, including any numbers or punctuation.
- Review any licence status or expiry information shown in the current account or application.
- If the history remains unclear, prepare a safe support check before ordering.
Support normally needs the username and a clear question. It should not need the account password, email password or one-time code.
Expired accounts
Expired does not mean new.
Expiry describes the current access time. It does not erase the account's earlier activation history. If the same username was activated before, the appropriate action is generally renewal rather than new activation.
Likewise, a new account can exist without being licensed. Registration alone does not make it a renewal account.
Avoid delays
Four common submission mistakes.
- Choosing new activation because the old licence expired.
- Typing an email address when the order requires the exact username.
- Submitting a second person's account without confirming ownership and authorization.
- Sending a password or OTP in an attempt to prove the account exists.
Next step
Choose the action first, then the period.
After confirming new activation or renewal, select 90, 180 or 360 days according to expected use. The period controls access time; it does not change the account-action rule.
